Paved patio with artificial lawn in Table View with Table Mountain across the bay

Table View, Blouberg, Parklands, Sunningdale — the West Coast strip is young, windswept, sand to the horizon, and growing faster than anywhere in Cape Town. It’s also home to the most famous view of Table Mountain there is, and outdoor spaces here get designed to face it. We pave and plant across the whole strip, and we’ve learned exactly what this sand-and-wind coastline demands.

What we do on the West Coast

Driveway paving on deep sand

West Coast sand runs deep and loose — fine for drainage, useless uncompacted. Our driveways here get thorough plate compaction in layers and solid edge restraints, because on this ground an unrestrained edge doesn’t creep, it wanders.

Artificial lawn — the local favourite

Nowhere makes the case for artificial grass like the West Coast: salt wind burns real lawn, sand drinks irrigation, and the new estates want green now. Half our artificial installs happen on this strip. UV-stable grades only — the sun out here takes no prisoners.

Patios and braai courtyards

The south-easter is the design constraint. We build patios and courtyards with wind protection planned first — walls, screens, sunken levels — because an exposed patio in Big Bay is furniture roulette from November to February.

Low-maintenance coastal gardens

Our landscaping crews plant what survives here: dune species, salt-tough succulents, restio screens — with heavy soil improvement in every bed because raw West Coast sand feeds nothing. Pebble-and-paver combinations do a lot of the visual work in our designs here.

Areas we cover

Table View, Blouberg, Bloubergstrand, Big Bay, Parklands, Parklands North, Sunningdale, Sandown, Milnerton, Royal Ascot, Flamingo Vlei, West Beach, Melkbosstrand and the estates along Sandown Road.

Building for wind, salt and sand

Wind: layouts orientate away from the prevailing south-easter; screens and planted breaks are structural, not decorative. Salt: within sight of the sea we spec the same salt-tolerant materials we use on the Atlantic Seaboard — sealed pavers, stainless fixings. Sand: compaction, compaction, compaction. The failures we’re called to fix on this strip are almost all compaction shortcuts by others — the pattern our driveway cracking post describes, on fast-forward.

Frequently asked

Which artificial grass survives West Coast conditions?

UV-stabilised mid-to-premium grades with proper infill — the budget rolls fade fast in this sun. Full price picture in our artificial grass price guide.

Do you work in the new Parklands and Sitari-style estates?

All the time — new-build gardens on blank sand plots are a West Coast speciality of ours, HOA rules included.

Is paving cheaper on sandy ground?

Slightly — excavation is easier and drainage is nearly free. The saving goes back into compaction and edging, which is exactly where it should.
